We’re a few days into the new year, and I’m pretty sure most of us have cooked up some kind of resolution. You know, the usual chants: work out more, rest more, socialize more, travel more… basically do everything more.
Now, I have to admit — I didn’t exactly feel those big “new year, new me” vibes. Honestly, it felt like just another day. But still, I’ve set a few goals and resolutions for myself. Because let’s be real — as humans, we’re wired to reflect, grow, and strive to be better. It’s part of who we are. So, when we get the chance to hit the reset button, we go all in.
The tricky part? Actually sticking to those resolutions.
Every year, we tell ourselves, “This time, it’ll be different.” Spoiler alert: it usually isn’t unless we’re intentional about it.
This year, though, one of my resolutions feels a little different.
It’s simple: make God proud.
You know, like how parents brag about their kids when they’ve done something amazing? That’s the kind of pride I want God to feel when He looks at me.
Imagine hearing God being as proud as the master who gave his servants talents.
His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!
Matthew 25:21
Before rushing ahead, let’s take a moment to pause and reflect on the journey so far.
When we look back, it’s easy to recall the challenges, uncertainties, and hardships of the past year. But if we’re honest, we should also remember the testimonies of His goodness, the mercy we didn’t deserve, and the love He poured out in every season. Through it all, God has been faithful.
Whether we recognized it in the moment or not, His hand guided us, His grace carried us, and His love sustained us.
This new year isn’t just a fresh start; it’s a continuation of the story God is writing in each of our lives.
True fulfillment isn’t found in achievements alone. It comes from living in alignment with God’s will, walking in faith, and being a light to those around us.
We’ve all encountered moments when life didn’t go as planned — unexpected losses, unanswered prayers, dreams that fell short, or realizing we’re not where we thought we’d be. Yet, resilience isn’t built by avoiding hardships but by walking through them with steadfast faith, trusting that God’s promises remain true, even when the road ahead feels uncertain.
We know this. Deep down, we understand that trials build faith and perseverance. But when difficulties arise, it’s so easy to forget.
This year, let’s commit to being resilient (starting from myself). Not in our own strength, but in the confidence that comes from trusting God. We’re not called to be perfect, but we are called to be faithful. So try making a faith-based resolution and stick to it no matter how difficult it might get. The devil loves to throw stones at us when he sees us working towards greatness, so be ready for battle.
Take some time for yourself and reflect on the person you aspire to be. In an ideal world, how would I act? Who would I become? What would I look like? And what kind of impact would I make for the Kingdom of God?
Now, ask yourself — what would it take to grow into that version of me?
Let’s make space in our hearts and our plans for God this year. Let’s take a moment to ask: What can I do to make God proud? Not out of duty or obligation, but out of love and gratitude for all He’s done for us.
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”
Proverbs 16:3
Here’s to a year filled with faith, purpose, and a deeper walk with God. And one thing I know for sure: He won’t let us down.
Stay Blessed x
