Exploring the hidden wisdom of the scriptures

Soaring Stars Study Series: The Origin of Sin

Has anyone ever asked you this question; If God exists, then why is there so much suffering in this world? It’s one of the biggest questions humanity has ever asked.
If God is good, why is there so much evil?
If God created everything, then He must have created suffering as well?

To understand why our physical world is so messed up we have to go back to the very beginning. Back to the Spirit realm.

Trouble in the Spirit Realm

Before humanity fell, rebellion had already happened in heaven. The Bible doesn’t explain it as one story but we can put the pieces together by reading multiple scriptures.

In Revelation 12:7–12, the Apostle John shares a vision of war in heaven: Lucifer and his angels fighting, ultimately being defeated and cast down to earth.

Jude 1:6 tells us that the angels who followed him in rebellion were judged and bound.

And Revelation 20:10 reveals the devil’s final end and judgment.

But the real question is; Why did Lucifer rebel in the first place?

The closest thing to an answer I could find was in Isaiah 14:12–15 (though not explicitly naming Satan) this verse describes a being who desired to exalt himself above God. The problem wasn’t weakness, it was pride.

Lucifer wanted God’s position, authority and glory. Instead of worshiping God, he wanted to replace Him. God created both angels and humans with choice. And unfortunately some chose rebellion.

The Shift to the Physical Realm

Lucifer knew he couldn’t defeat God directly. So he changed his strategy. If he couldn’t overthrow God in heaven, he would try to corrupt what God loved on earth.

His goal became:

And till today his strategy hasn’t changed.

His strategy is very obvious; it appears in thoughts like; “Did God really say…?”, “It won’t be that bad… God will forgive you anyway.”…..

Trouble in the Physical Realm

When God created the world, it was good. Genesis 1:26–31 shows creation was declared good. There was nothing like death, sickness or even shame. We as humans had a perfect relationship with God. He made us in His image and gave us; authority, responsibility and freedom.

So how did sin enter this perfect world?

In Genesis 3, Lucifer uses the serpent for his deceit:

  • Questions God’s Word
  • Twists God’s command
  • Attacks God’s character
  • Promises independence

After Adam and Eve disobeyed God (= the first sin), they opened the door for evil to enter and the effects were immediate: Shame, hiding and separation from God (Isaiah 59:2).

What Is Evil and Where Did It Come From?

God did not create evil as a substance. Evil is when something good; like freedom, desire, or authority is abused. It is not something God added to creation. It is the corruption or absence of the good that should be there.

Sin is:

  • Rebellion/disobedience against God
  • Choosing selfish desires over God desire
  • Missing the mark of God’s design

The Consequences of Sin

Genesis 3 shows what happens after sin: separation from God and spiritual disconnection. In Exodus 34:6–7, we see that sin can multiply over generations. Even when there is forgiveness, it doesn’t mean there are no consequences.

Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit.
Cain killed his brother.
Lamech took two wives.

See how sin escalates?

The moment that door was opened, each generation came with its own share of sin. And after thousands of years, here we are; living in a modern-day broken world.

So to answer the question; NO, God didn’t create evil, he didn’t bring suffering and pain. Humans did.

Our world today is so evil:

  • Because humanity has fallen.
  • Because sin multiplies across generations.
  • Because broken people build broken systems.
  • Because we are spiritually separated from God.

Even in this wretched world, God didn’t forget His children. He still send His Son so that we can have a way out. So that we can make the RIGHT choice.

The Bible is not a story about bad people being punished. It’s a story about a loving God who knows we are broken and still chooses to rescue us.

Stay Blessed x
