The Story of My Life: Scars That Heal

Sometimes we reflect on our lives and are genuinely shocked. Crazy how we survived certain experiences or even how we got into trouble in the first place. Even crazier is how God comes through for us, often in ways that feel downright miraculous.

If you were to write an autobiography, what would it look like? What would the title be? The description? Would the cover be shrouded in sorrow or bursting with color and light?
Each of us has lived a unique life. Even family members experiencing the same situation can see it through entirely different lenses. Your perspective is yours alone, and that makes your story both valuable and powerful.

No matter how big or small, good or bad, you are entitled to your own feelings. Something that might have been huge for you could be minor to someone else but that is precisely what makes your journey unique. It also allows you to connect deeply with others who have walked a similar path. Which is why it’s a dangerous thing to compare ourselves to others.

What was your experience? A heartbreak, a promotion, a failure, or a victory…..every story matters. And believe it or not; it doesn’t have to have a happy ending before we can use it to bless others.
Apostle Paul died in prison, while Paul and Silas were set free; does that mean Apostle Paul’s life wasn’t a success?? They had similar experiences but the way their story influences others is different.
Our definition of happy ending isn’t the same as what God sees as a happy ending. Our testimonies, no matter the size or outcome, can plant a seed of hope or encouragement in someone else’s life.

In my own 26 years on this earth, I’ve had my share of experiences: some good, some bad, some messy, some sad, and some victorious. With every challenge and triumph, I grew.
I’m still growing, still learning. And now, when I meet someone struggling with something I’ve faced before, I know how to encourage them. I know what to say and what not to say. Their experience might differ, but I can relate in ways I couldn’t have before my own journey.

There’s always a reason why we go through something. Sometimes it’s our own choices, sometimes it’s the enemy trying to distract us, sometimes it’s a test from God.
I’m not saying God inflicts suffering for His amusement, but every experience carries purpose. Romans 8:28 reminds us: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

The most important part is never giving up on Him! Resting in God, trusting Him, and leaning on Him ensures that, at the end, we come out stronger, wiser, and better than we started. As Isaiah 40:31 says: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Our experiences are often deeply linked to our ministry. I’ve heard it said that our greatest weaknesses can point to our greatest calling. Someone who struggles with loneliness might have an incredible capacity to love the brokenhearted, because they know exactly how it feels. Someone who wrestles with temptation might be equipped, after overcoming their temptations, to counsel others facing the same challenges.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4:
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

In other words, our stories can transform into ministry.

Take a moment and really think about your life. Stand still and reflect. What have you gone through?

  • Anxiety?
  • Divorce?
  • Addiction?
  • Rising from poverty?
  • Surviving a suicide attempt?
  • Or even something seemingly small; like missing your bus and meeting the love of your life, or mixing up a recipe that eventually led to opening your own restaurant?

How did God show up for you in those moments? How did the enemy try to bring you down? How have you sabotaged yourself or how have you been saved?

The real question is; how can you use those experiences to contribute to the kingdom of God? How can your story, your lessons, your triumphs and failures, encourage your fellow brethren?

If you were to write your autobiography, what would the title be? What would you include? Think deeply because your experiences matter, your testimony matters, and the lessons you’ve learned can light the way for someone else.

Life is full of surprises, trials, victories, and divine interventions. When we look back, sometimes it’s shocking, but often it’s humbling, and always it’s a reminder of God’s faithfulness.

Stay Blessed x
